What does it mean when a male platonic friend says he needs space and changes from a nice guy to a cold one?

Especially when I as a female and he are in separate relationships anyway? We are friends but our spouses do not know about each other and there is NO romantic intentions anyway..we just used to talk..about everything but no flirting
